PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To oversee the daily and weekly operation of shift workers and equipment usage at the underground mine site to achieve production, training, and safety requirements; Providing support and direction to the shift supervisors as necessary to ensure all workers are always trained and competent to perform their duties safely and productively; to execute additional instructions from the senior manager of underground mining and the requirements of relevant Tanzanian mining legislation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of secondary school education.
• Valid Driving License
• Valid Blasting Certificates
• Site entry requirements, which may include mine health surveillance.

 

EXPERIENCE:
• With at least 5 years of working experience in a related field, such as sublevel stopping or transverse mining.
• Experience working at a mechanized mine.
• A proven track record of managing and leading large and diverse teams.

 

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Oversees the mine with regards to duty of care to all employees, sub-contractors, and visitors, also ensuring that each employee understands and accepts responsibility for his own safety and the safety of others.
• Comply with incident management protocol as per GGM procedure.
• Complete safety-leading indicators and critical control verification for major hazards as per set targets.
• Responsible for the safe and proper implementation of all aspects of the operations, ensuring compliance with the rules and guidelines set out in all GGM’s Underground Standard Working Procedures.
• Promptly act on any issues that arise, ensuring accident or incident reporting and investigation are carried out and followed up.
• supervise underground shift supervisors and provide direction and assistance with the planning of mining activities in accordance with mining, safety, and environmental regulations.
•Liaise with appropriate underground mining specialists and the Technical Services Planning Team to ensure expectations are realistic and projected targets are achieved safely and to specifications.
• Coordinate manpower, work roster preparations, annual leave scheduling, and assist with the employment or deployment of the workforce.
• Ensure the effectiveness of the training system and the achievement of skill and knowledge transfer to the Tanzanian national workforce.
• Carry out regular inspections of plant and equipment and communicate with the Maintenance Department regularly on equipment scheduling.
• Maintain accurate records relevant to the role in accordance with the relevant mining acts, codes, and regulations.
• Ensure inventory is correctly accounted for on a shift-by-shift basis.
• Add value to the best practices of underground production drilling and blasting techniques.
• Attend weekly safety meetings and lead safety stoppage meetings with contractors and staff, and ensure any responsibilities for the agreed action plans are met and outcomes are achieved in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate adherence to GGML safety and health policy and procedures.
• Assist the underground manager with procedure development where necessary.
• Comply with all company environmental standards.
• Ensure all statutory reporting requirements are met in relation to safety and environmental incidents within established deadlines within the department.
• Report on all safety, production, and financial performance indicators related to UG production and development.
•Planning the daily production for the mine in line with the approved schedules to meet the daily, weekly, and monthly production KPIs of development meters, production meters, and total ore tons
• Performs the daily management, control, and supervision of the working areas of the mine in accordance with all relevant Acts and Regulations.
• Liaises with any contractors who are within the work area, ensuring their work is coordinated with other mining activities.
• Upholds GGM policy on discipline and counsels personnel accordingly (in conjunction with the Snr. Underground Manager).
• Conducts and reports to the Superintendent, UG Production measures the performance and general behavior of workers in the crew for the purpose of recognizing team players and areas for improvement.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
ability to achieve production and cost objectives.
• Demonstrable record of managing safe mine operations, with a good knowledge of relevant international mining standards.
• Working knowledge of underground mining and haulage.
demonstrated experience in managing teams to achieve successful outcomes.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
• ability to work collaboratively with and manage a culturally diversified workforce.
• able to incorporate the company’s safety and environmental policies during the conduct of work so that mine designs and outcomes directly under their control are in accordance with the company’s and statutory requirements.
• The ability to work across all disciplines, where rigorous engagement and interaction are expected.
• The ability to handle work-related conflicts and resolve them.
• The ability to utilize equipment and office software (MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)) to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and mailings.
• The ability to work and communicate with people at all levels and good interpersonal skills.
