JOB TITLE: Climate Change and Aging Adviser

Location: Global. Based anywhere as long as you have the legal right to live and work in that country

Reporting to: Portfolio Lead, Income Security

Grade: UK Grade' E' Salary £43,000 per annum but adjusted to the cost of living of the country in which you are based.

Contract: Fixed Term, two years contract

Key areas for impact/influence and responsibilities

  • The Advisor will collaborate with national teams, international teams, partners, and other network participants to Offer thought leadership to the HelpAge network regarding the relationship between population aging and climate change.
  • Set strategic goals for population aging and climate change for HelpAge and the network. Oversee HelpAge International's stance as a thought leader on the aging population and climate catastrophe and act as a reliable source for information on programming, technical matters, and policy.  
  • Across all portfolios, offer strategic oversight, direction, and assistance in creating and applying programming tools about the climate crisis and its effects on older people.
  • Encourage and cultivate new and current strategic alliances with academic institutions, civil society multilateral organizations, and other important players to bolster our climate change policy.
  • When appropriate, coordinate with portfolios to establish connections with and influence the UNFCCC, other UN system institutions, and other multilateral and bilateral agencies.  

Skills and experience required

  • Substantial experience working on climate change in a senior role with an international development agency. Knowledge of the aging population, including its trends, issues, and rights.
  • Strong knowledge of intersectional issues and climate justice, such as how discrimination and inequality, including gender equality, the inclusion of persons with disabilities and older adults, and the rights of indigenous peoples, are essential to the conversation about climate change.
  • substantial background influencing policies and advocating for climate change with governments, donors, UN agencies, CSOs, or multinational organizations
  • Experience in research, policy analysis, report writing, and sharing best practices in humanitarian or development contexts
  • Experience interacting with funders and other funding sources
  • the capacity to participate in and make a contribution to high-level policy discussions and civil society advisory roles, governments, multilateral agencies, UNs, and other stakeholders
  • The United Nations, states, and other relevant parties have extensive knowledge of the global climate change debate, as well as familiarity with the discourses and procedures surrounding environmental issues  

Language Requirements:

Proficiency in the language. Proficiency in Arabic or Spanish is advantageous.
