Summary of Work
St. Francis Regional Referral Hospital (SFRRH) is home to both inpatient and outpatient services for HIV/TB patients, and the Ifakara Health Institute is looking for an intern with experience in these areas to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage these patients. The intern's primary responsibility will be to assist the hospital, local and state governments, and other health implementation partners in providing better patient care. Within the current research infrastructure of the Kilombero and Ulanga Antiretroviral Cohort (KIULARCO), the Research Officer will oversee and instruct younger colleagues on diagnostic workup and patient management. Along with this, they will be pushed to create their own research plans and initiatives.
Job Functions and Accountability
Care for people living with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in accordance with local protocols, national guidelines, and standards for clinical management of these diseases.
Oversee and instruct less experienced medical professionals and clinical officials in the identification and treatment of HIV and tuberculosis patients.
Identify and treat opportunistic infections (OIs) or refer patients to the relevant departments if necessary.
Ensure accurate patient records are kept by filling out case report forms (CRF), which include CTC 1/2.
Consultation and ward rounds for patients admitted to various departments at SFRRH who are living with HIV.
Follow all rules and regulations set out by the hospital, the Chronic Diseases Clinic of Ifakara (CDCI), and the Ministry of Health (MOH) as outlined in your job description.
Clients attending CDCI and PLHIV might receive health education and counselling on adherence.
Reminder: Monday through Thursday at CDCI and Friday from 7:30 to 9:00 at SFRRH clinical hall are all mandatory meetings.
Stop by the IHI for some scientific meetings.
Assist in the organisation, management, and execution of research projects undertaken by IHI and its collaborators.
Assist the PL, the site director of IHI, or the director general of SFRRH with any other duties as required.
Background and Skills
A medical degree at the bachelor level (MD).
Internship certificate.
Tanganyika Medical Council registration (or application pending).
Have worked with HIV/TB patients before or have a certificate that verifies this.
Abilities and Capabilities
Native speaker of Swahili and English.
Passion for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS care.
Excessive drive for scientific endeavours.
Demonstrates a collaborative management approach and possesses excellent interpersonal abilities.
Skilled at establishing and maintaining rapport with both junior and senior-level professionals.
There is a strong desire to train younger employees.
Displaying a professional demeanour and adhering to strict work principles.
Ability to organise and plan ahead.
