Applications for the Research Assistant post in the PartoMa Project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, are invited by Aga Khan University (AKU).  By means of data collecting, management, and analysis, this posture guarantees the effective execution of the research project by means of coordination of research operations and assurance of the quality, integrity, and correctness of research results.

About the PartoMa Project

Aiming to enhance clinical decision-making during childbirth, the PartoMa Project is a mother and newborn health research endeavour.  The initiative aims to improve mother and infant health outcomes by means of evidence-based guidelines and capacity-building strategies.  Data collecting, interacting with study subjects, and helping with research documentation and reporting will help the Research Assistant support the project.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Field Research & Data Collection

  • Visit planned field areas for subject recruiting and data collecting.
     Find qualified subjects and guarantee ethical standards are followed.
     Get study subjects' informed permission while maintaining anonymity.
     Get both qualitative and quantitative data, guaranteeing compliance with research standards, security, and correctness.

2. Data Management

  • Review, modify, and gather research data to uphold high data integrity.
     Verify and validate your data to guarantee correctness.
     Manage and arrange electronic and physical records closely with the research team.
     Follow up on any data anomalies and quickly correct disparities.

3. Interviews & Community Engagement

  • Interview community volunteers and healthcare experts both personally and over the phone.
     Involve community and clinical stakeholders to promote project support and cooperation.
     To inspire honest and candid answers, build a friendly relationship with the participants.

4. Project Coordination

  • Help with research materials including consent forms, interview guides, and data collecting instruments.
     Support documentation of study results and report drafting.
     Create summaries for stakeholders, presentations, and briefing materials.

5. Meetings & Workshops

  • Help in organization and facilitation of research conferences, seminars, and training courses.
     Attend progress reviews, brainstorming sessions, and project team meetings.

6. Equipment & Supplies Management

  • Request, track, and maintain research tools and supplies to ensure they are available when needed.
  • Ensure proper handling, usage, and maintenance of research equipment.

7. Training & Compliance

  • Participate in training sessions on research ethics, data collection, and compliance procedures.
  • Stay updated on best practices in research methodology and data security.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education & Professional Background

  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate from an accredited medical institution.
  • Qualified Nurse, Midwife, or Clinical Officer (One year of clinical experience is an added advantage).

Research & Technical Skills

  • at least one year of clinical research experience encompassing data handling, data collecting, and interview conducting.
     Knowledge in qualitative as well as quantitative data collecting techniques.
     keen awareness of detail, sharp analytical ability, and a dedication to high standards for study.
     Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) proficiency
     Capacity to uphold standards of quality, safety, and infection control throughout fieldwork.

Language & Communication

  • Speaking and writing in English and Swahili is rather fluent.
     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will help one interact with team members and study subjects.

Organizational & Teamwork Skills

  • Excellent organizing, time control, and preparation.
     Capacity to operate both alone and in concert with others from many disciplines.
     comfortable working in several surroundings, including community settings and healthcare facilities.
