Position: Underground Shift Supervisor
Location: Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position Purpose: Every day, this role must prioritise resources, machinery, and people in order to coordinate underground mining operations in accordance with the mine plan. Proper reporting of safety concerns to the Underground Manager and Project Manager is the responsibility of the Underground Shift Supervisor, who is responsible for ensuring that mining operations are done in a safe way.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Watches over mining operations to make sure they are safe and reports any problems quickly.
    Determines the mine's daily production levels.
    Carries out day-to-day management, control, and supervision of the mine's operating areas in compliance with applicable regulations and statutes.
    Maintains order in the mine by making sure everyone there, from workers to subcontractors to visitors, knows and agrees to play by the rules when it comes to safety.
    Coordinates and directs crews at each location with respect to schedules and operational matters.
    Holds toolbox and work planning meetings every day.
    Checks that all new hires have received the proper training in accordance with AUMS and client instructions.
    Files incident reports with the site project manager in the event that anything happens during the shift.
    Monitoring the training of the shift staff ensures everything is done safely.
    Coordinates on-site activities with contractors to guarantee safe and AUMS-compliant work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience with mechanised hard rock mining for at least ten years is required.
    Five years of experience as a supervisor in automated mining is required.
    Subterranean Shift Supervisor Certification is required.
    Continuing education for managers and prospective leaders.
    Have a valid driver's licence from Tanzania and be able to drive safely.
    Certificate in Senior First Aid.
    Knowledge on how to drill and blast.
    Being familiar with the capabilities and outputs of mining equipment and human resources.
    Capability to interact and collaborate well with site managers and staff.
    Aptitude for recognising possible dangers and reducing risks.
    Understanding of mine planning and mining procedures.
    Be familiar with mining regulations and statutes.
    Capability to evaluate the performance and potential of individuals.
