Position Summary

TA Therapeutic Efficacy Study (TES) is going to be conducted in Ngara, DC, by the Ifakara Health Institute as part of the PMI Shinda (DEFEAT) Malaria project. 

 

The effectiveness and safety of antimalarial medications will be investigated in this study. Participants in the trial will be children between the ages of 6 months and 10 years old. They will be given either first-line or alternate antimalarial medications and will be followed up for either 28 or 42 days to see how well the treatment worked. Midway through May 2024 to midway through October 2024 is when the study is anticipated to conclude.  

The Lab technician will work under the directive of the Principal Investigator of the study and will be engaged in patient screening and result interpretation, including laboratory sample collection, analysis, recording, interpreting and storage of samples. The nature of the position requires a high level of commitment and the ability to work under tight schedules and long hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform laboratory analysis from malaria blood smears and other specimens as required by the protocol

Whenever a supervisor, primary investigator, or monitor asks a question, voice an issue, or ask for clarification,

With the goal of protecting the privacy and confidentiality of participants

To maintain open lines of communication with other members of the study staff by attending and contributing to all regularly scheduled meetings

In order to guarantee that the research follows the established procedure and is in accordance with the ICH Guidelines for Good Laboratory Clinical Practice (GLCP)  

To maintain close professional relationships with the government officials in the study area. To work professionally and ethically with competence, accountability and integrity.

Additionally, to carry out any other responsibilities outlined by the supervisor

To Perform any other activities as instructed by the supervisor

Qualification and Experience

Diploma in medical laboratory technology

Valid license

Skills and Competencies

Experience in GCLP-compliant medical research

Attained at least Basic certification in Malaria microscopy Competence assessment

Self-motivated and highly focused attitude to work

Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken

One year of relevant experience, with a focus on clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of treatments for malaria  

Remuneration

Successful candidates will be granted a competitive wage package based on IHI salary scales.
