Business Execution Lead at Citi Bank - March 2025

Job Background/Context:
Among Citi's seven geographic clusters, the one responsible for reporting to Banking and International is the Middle East and Africa (MEA) cluster. Located in the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) sub-cluster, Tanzania is one of the core franchises in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) cluster.
In addition to reporting to the Tanzania CCO and Banking Head, this position will also report directly to the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) BE Head.
Job Purpose:
The head of the MEA cluster and banking department is responsible for overseeing the banking and international business execution team, while the chief operating officer of banking and international is in charge of the matrix. By organizing client-focused efforts, managing legal entities, implementing controls over those entities, and carrying out transformations, the BE team in MEA is able to enable business growth through the execution of mission-critical initiatives and programs.
In Tanzania, the role of the Business Execution (BE) Lead is to oversee the transformation execution, improve the controls environment, promote a culture of proactive controls, assist the CCO and Banking Head with franchise growth and client strategy, and manage legal entities through an efficient and streamlined governance model.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Focus and Business Growth:
- Assist the CCO and the Head of Banking with client-focused strategic initiatives to drive company growth.
Collaborate with the country leadership team, chief compliance officer, and head of banking to develop and implement strategies for the company's expansion. People & Talent, Customer Experience, and other long-term projects will fall under this category.
Maintain efficient management of the country's and the legal entity's strategic plans and initiatives; report progress to relevant forums; and guarantee their successful completion.
Legal Entity Management:
- Assist the Chief Compliance Officer and the Head of Banking in establishing and maintaining an efficient model for the governance of legal entities, including the Tanzania Board.
Verify that Citi's policies and any applicable local laws and regulations are being followed by the Legal Entity governance model.
Assist the CCO and Banking Head in tracking the franchise's progress against the agreed-upon scorecard. Promote a culture of responsibility and hold franchisees to their end goals.
Facilitate efficient linkage of the legal entity's governance with the MEA cluster's governance by promptly elevating any significant items.
Partner with businesses and functions to promote connectedness with the country and legal entity in the most effective way.
Oversee the legal entity's regulatory affairs, assign responsibility for any changes, engagement, or advocacy pertaining to regulations, and ensure that everyone is held accountable for achieving the intended results.
Oversee the franchise's annual planning cycle, expense management, and business reviews.
Take part in and/or help coordinate the rollout of transformational program initiatives as assigned.
Risk and Controls:
- Help the CCO and the head of banking encourage a culture of preventative measures and push for responsibility.
Verify that the financial and non-financial risks are adequately addressed by the legal entity's governance in accordance with Citi's policies and standards as well as any local regulations.
Make sure the legal entity is testing and improving its control environment by using MCA effectively and proactively.
Make that the country and the legal entity are using best practices in issue management to find, own, and handle issues.
In order to obtain timely support for remediation operations, it is important to coordinate the escalations of any possible issue re-targets, re-opens, or target dates that are at risk.
Controls, issues, remediation activities, and control enhancements related to operational risk must be effectively managed. Issues pertaining to data governance and third-party management fall under this category.
Maintain efficient administration of Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions (AML/CSF) controls, problems, remediation initiatives, and control enhancements.
Assist the CCO and the head of banking in ensuring that financial risks are being managed effectively, including supervising the ICAAP process.
Work with ICRM to coordinate audits and independent reviews

Person Specification
Qualifications:
- A minimum of ten years' experience in a managerial role within the financial services sector, ideally in the areas of business and product management, consulting, enterprise risk management, or program management.
Being familiar with the city is an advantage.
Degree at the graduate or postgraduate level in business administration or a closely related course.
Familiar with the principles of corporate governance and risk management. A proven track record of successful governance operations is an asset.
A familiarity with the structure and relevant regulations of financial organizations.
