Job Description
We’re looking for a Tax Officer in Dar es Salaam to manage tax compliance and optimize tax positions for the bank. In this role, you will:
- Prepare and file tax returns for the bank with the Tanzania Revenue Authorities (TRA) on time, including PAYE/ SDL certificates, VAT, excise duty returns, and corporate tax filings.
- Research tax laws to stay updated and advise management on any tax-related matters.
- Analyze financial data to identify tax savings and process improvements.
- Manage tax audits and handle inquiries from tax authorities.
- Build and maintain good relationships with government tax officials and external tax advisors.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the bank.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure tax-related transactions are recorded accurately.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports for management review.
- Participate in month-end tax entries and ensure accounts are cleaned up.
- Prepare quarterly service levy taxes and returns.
- Assist with developing and implementing tax strategies to minimize liabilities.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations and documentation.
- Perform tax account reconciliations and help with other relevant accounts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in tax accounting or similar roles.
- In-depth knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws and regulations.
- Skilled in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Great written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional tax certification like CPA or ACCA preferred.
- Understanding of international tax principles and their application to cross-border transactions.
- Familiar with data management and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of transfer pricing is a plus.
