Position: Sustainable Agriculture Intern – Soil Health & Organic Waste Management
Location: Mkuranga, Tanzania
Are you passionate about sustainable agriculture and composting? In this role, you’ll be hands-on with organic waste management, focusing on creating high-quality compost to boost soil health. You’ll support every step of compost production, from managing the process to analyzing quality. You’ll also engage with farmers to spread the benefits of organic compost for better crop growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle Organic Waste: Assist in the daily intake, sorting, and prepping of organic waste.
- Composting Process Management: Help oversee composting to produce nutrient-rich compost.
- Site Cleanliness & Safety: Keep the site safe and clean by following all protocols.
- Quality Checks & Data Recording: Perform quality checks and record data on compost production.
- Composting Monitoring: Track temperature, moisture, and aeration to ensure compost quality.
- Soil Testing: Assist with soil testing and evaluate compost quality.
- Farmer Education: Work with our team to educate farmers on using organic compost for soil health.
- Data Documentation: Collect and analyze compost data to improve processes continuously.
Qualifications:
- Completed a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an environmental or related field.
- Interest in waste management, composting, agriculture, or similar areas.
- Basic computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Physically able to handle hands-on tasks.
- Open to relocating to Mkuranga or nearby areas.
