Job Title: Program Manager
Reports to: Program Manager at HQ (solid line) / Country Operations Director (dotted line)
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Job Summary
Africa Relief is looking for a Program Manager to lead its projects in Tanzania. In this role, you’ll oversee planning, implementation, and monitoring of programs covering areas like education, healthcare, clean water, emergency response, and economic development. This position involves managing day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance, and tracking program impact to align with the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management and Implementation
- Plan, execute, and evaluate programs across health, education, governance, and economic development sectors in Tanzania.
- Develop concept notes and proposals for new initiatives.
- Ensure all projects meet Africa Relief’s standards and goals.
- Handle daily project activities, address challenges, ensure donor compliance, and meet deadlines.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Lead and mentor program staff, providing the tools they need to succeed.
- Build a collaborative and positive work environment.
Financial and Compliance Oversight
- Track expenditures to ensure they stay within budget and provide forecasts to HQ.
- Review partner budgets and oversee timely financial reporting.
- Maintain compliance with donor and technical standards.
Risk Management and Monitoring
- Identify risks related to performance, finances, and compliance, and create strategies to address them.
- Implement monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to measure program success and impact.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Represent Africa Relief in Tanzania while working with government authorities, donors, NGOs, and community leaders.
- Build partnerships with international organizations to support program goals.
New Business Development
- Monitor trends and emerging needs in Tanzania for potential program opportunities.
- Prepare grant applications to secure funding from international donors and organizations.
Reporting and Communication
- Share regular updates with the Program Director at HQ, copying the Country Operations Director.
- Maintain clear communication with staff, donors, and partners to ensure project success.
Technical Leadership
- Share best practices to improve program performance.
- Attend conferences and events to represent Africa Relief and stay informed on international aid trends.
Travel and Site Visits
- Visit project sites regularly to monitor progress and support teams on the ground.
- Ensure projects stay on track and resolve any issues that arise.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience
- 5–7 years of program management experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within international development.
Skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Expertise in financial management, budgeting, and compliance.
- Knowledge of project management, M&E, and risk management.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Fluency in English (local languages or Arabic are a bonus).
Travel
- Open to traveling within Tanzania and internationally as required.
