About LVIA

Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian NGO active in ten African countries, including Tanzania. With its headquarters in Cuneo, Italy, and a local office in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region, LVIA has over 30 years of experience in Tanzania. Its efforts focus on community development in agriculture, health, and access to clean water and hygiene.


The Project

The project, Tunza Majingira Tumia Jiko Banifu (Improve the Environment, Use Improved Cookstoves), is part of the “Green Tanzania Cookstove Programme,” developed by OffgridSun. It aims to reduce traditional cooking methods in Kongwa by distributing 26,000 improved cookstoves across 30 villages. These stoves cut firewood and charcoal use by up to 70%, helping to reduce deforestation, carbon emissions, and health risks.

Key Objectives:

  • Distribute improved cookstoves: Provide 26,000 cookstoves and 52,000 tree seedlings to communities.
  • Raise awareness: Organize events promoting environmental protection and cookstove benefits.
  • Monitor usage: Ensure the stoves are used effectively by households.

Field Officer Responsibilities

As a Field Officer, you will report to the Project Coordinator and Country Representative, taking on tasks such as:

Key Tasks

  • Support project implementation at the local level.
  • Build relationships with village representatives to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Organize training sessions and campaigns with partners and community members.
  • Collaborate with government officials and other stakeholders.
  • Collect and manage data through surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Prepare accurate reports and upload data efficiently.
  • Distribute project materials and monitor their impact through regular field visits.
  • Address challenges in the field and propose practical solutions.
  • Draft weekly work plans for approval by supervisors.
  • Lead community sensitization activities.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse age groups and adapt to different settings.
  • Problem-solving abilities and organizational skills.
  • Sensitivity to gender equality issues.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in areas like rural development, data collection, monitoring, or environmental studies.
  • At least two years of experience as a Field Officer or in a similar role.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili, with strong report-writing skills.
  • Proficient in using smartphones, apps, and data collection tools.
  • Tanzanian citizenship, preferably with experience in Kongwa District.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications or additional training.
  • Experience with international NGOs or donor-funded projects.
  • Valid motorcycle permit.
