Job Summary
As an Engineer (Engineer Level I) at Water Mission Tanzania, you’ll work under the direction of the Lead Engineer or their designee. Your main responsibilities will include the design, construction, and maintenance of water treatment systems in communities and disaster areas, following Water Mission’s standards, schedules, and budgets.
This role requires you to be based near the regional office in Kasulu and be open to fieldwork for up to one week regularly, and occasionally for longer periods. You’ll be involved in assessments and will help support the technical side of our operations.
As a key leader in Water Mission, you’ll guide staff to develop a biblical worldview that leads to excellence in all tasks. Your role will include encouraging staff to provide accurate data, embrace challenges as opportunities, and work toward solutions that align with Water Mission’s mission, vision, and values.
Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:
- Lead by example: Maintain a strong Christian presence and model servant leadership to colleagues, donors, volunteers, and the public.
- Support Water Mission’s mission and values: Understand, support, and actively promote the Vision, Mission, and Values of Water Mission.
- Engineering tasks: Conduct water hydraulic design calculations, create plans, specifications, and structural drawings.
- Onsite project management: Provide management and support for approved projects.
- Field inspections: Perform field inspections and site assessments to ensure construction meets design expectations.
- Uphold quality standards: Ensure the technical team follows WM’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
- Design water systems: Help design water systems, including sources, pumping, treatment, storage, and distribution.
- Review work: Ensure your work is reviewed by another engineer as directed by the Country Director.
- Conduct assessments: Assess water quality, quantity, and other factors as needed in communities.
- Timely reporting: Provide reports on projects, including monthly, assessment, and follow-up reports with photos.
- Disaster response: Support disaster response efforts and travel to other countries when required.
- Other duties: Complete any other tasks assigned.

- Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Water Resources, Sanitation, Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering).
- Experience: At least 4 years of experience in water resources, sanitation, wastewater engineering, or a related field.
- Professional registration: Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania (ERB).
- Skills: Advanced proficiency with office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), design programs (EPANET, AutoCAD, Power CADD), and project management software.
- Languages: Strong communication skills in both English and Swahili.
- Other skills: Excellent analytical, project planning, monitoring, and management skills.
- Work ethic: A self-starter with a strong work ethic and initiative.
- Other requirements: A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
