Position Details

  • Location: Dar Es Salaam

Key Role

As the DevOps Manager, your main job will be to manage and optimize SportPesa's DevOps systems. Leading a team, you’ll work to ensure systems are available and reliable in both cloud and on-premises settings. This is a hands-on role where you’ll provide 2nd and 3rd line support, collaborating closely with SportPesa’s global IT teams.

Main Responsibilities

  1. IT Systems Management
    Oversee the design, setup, configuration, testing, and monitoring of IT systems. You’ll focus on delivering secure, high-performing systems that can scale across various environments.

  2. Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
    Create and manage infrastructure with tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation for efficient deployment.

  3. Performance Optimization
    Monitor system performance to ensure consistent reliability and scalability.

  4. Security & Compliance
    Work with security teams to keep systems secure and up to date with industry standards.

  5. Team Leadership
    Mentor and guide your DevOps team, encouraging ongoing skill development.

  6. Knowledge Sharing
    Document processes and share knowledge to maintain system consistency and reliability.

  7. Technology & Innovation
    Stay updated on the latest DevOps and cloud technology trends, bringing valuable insights back to the team.

  8. Other Duties
    Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years in a DevOps or related field, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Shell, or PowerShell)
    • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
    • Strong grasp of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid setups
    • Skilled in version control, ideally with GitLab
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience leading teams and mentoring team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and communication skills, with excellent time management.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, ELK, or Grafana)
  • Knowledge of networking, security protocols, and best practices
  • Experience with microservices and serverless architectures
  • Database management skills (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Couchbase, MongoDB)
