We’re hiring a Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for a USDA-funded five-year project aimed at revolutionizing the poultry value chain in Tanzania. This project will empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by strengthening feed sectors, promoting climate-smart technologies, improving animal health, and enhancing access to agricultural finance.

About the Role
As the DCOP, you’ll lead the project team in Mbeya with vision and expertise. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, you’ll manage daily operations, ensure compliance, and provide technical leadership in key areas such as poultry productivity, business models, and agricultural finance. You’ll also step into the Chief of Party role when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the project team to meet goals within the budget and timeframe.
  • Build partnerships with USDA, Tanzanian government agencies, and private sector players.
  • Supervise staff, monitor progress, and manage grants.
  • Oversee technical areas like poultry feed production, private sector investments, and access to finance.
  • Develop annual work plans, monitor outcomes, and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Represent the project in meetings, conferences, and donor events.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA regulations and Corus policies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or Doctorate preferred) in agriculture, entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience managing international donor-funded projects, preferably USDA or USAID.
  • Strong background in value chain development and market systems.
  • Proven leadership and staff supervision skills.
  • Familiarity with USG regulations and Tanzanian socio-economic contexts.
  • Fluency in English (Swahili is a plus).
