NBC, the oldest bank in Tanzania with over five decades of experience, is looking for a Consultant in Trade Operations to join its team. With a wide range of retail, business, and corporate banking services, NBC is committed to exceptional service and performance.


Job Overview

As a Consultant in Trade Operations, you'll drive business performance by guiding a team through various trade finance tasks, including Bank Guarantees, Letters of Credit (LC), Trade Loans, and Bills for Collection.


Key Responsibilities

1. Business Execution & Performance (30%)

  • Lead and support the team in processing transactions like Bank Guarantees, LCs, Trade Loans, and Bills for Collection.
  • Review and authorize trade transactions on platforms such as FCC and Morongwa, ensuring all necessary documents are in place and customer accounts are properly funded.
  • Coordinate with other bank departments (e.g., Business Banking, Legal, Treasury) to maintain service standards.
  • Collect fees based on NBC’s tariff guide and customer agreements.
  • Ensure transaction files are organized and easily retrievable.

2. Innovation & Change (10%)

  • Participate in testing and implementing new trade finance processes.
  • Offer process improvement ideas to boost efficiency in transaction handling.
  • Continuously develop personal skills and knowledge in trade finance.

3. Customer Service & Stakeholder Management (30%)

  • Handle Trade Operations queries and complaints, ensuring quick resolutions.
  • Oversee service levels and ensure the team consistently meets internal and external expectations.
  • Lead monthly reconciliations and reporting on LC, Guarantees, and Trade Loans to meet reporting timelines.
  • Provide support during audits and foster a strong culture of customer service within the team.

4. Controls & Risk Management (30%)

  • Ensure compliance with NBC policies, ABSA Group standards, and regulatory requirements like UCP 600, URC 522, and AML/KYC protocols.
  • Screen transactions for AML and sanctions compliance before authorization.
  • Ensure that customer facility letters are valid and within approved limits before transaction authorization.
  • Oversee monthly reconciliations on LC, cash cover, and trade loans.

Other Duties: Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.


Education & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor's in Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Experience: 6+ years in a technical role; management experience is a plus.

Skills

  • Solid knowledge of banking products and trade finance.
  • Proficiency in internal computer systems.
  • Understanding of international trade rules (e.g., UCP600, URC 522, URDG).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service abilities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and a commitment to team success.
  • Open to change and improvement in operations and quality standards.
