Mission and Objectives

The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) represents the UN Secretary-General in Tanzania, working closely with the UN Tanzania Country Team (UNCT), which includes 23 UN Agencies. This role supports Tanzania’s development by coordinating UN initiatives and partnerships.

Context

This volunteer position boosts the visibility of UN activities in Tanzania by integrating communication and design efforts. As a Communications Associate, you’ll work with the UN RCO Communications team to highlight UN contributions toward sustainable development. Your role will involve close collaboration with the UN Communication Group (UNCG) and various UN agencies to ensure impactful and cohesive communication.

Job Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Head of UNRCO and National Information Officer, you’ll:

Content Creation and Management

  • Create engaging content, like social media posts, articles, and press releases, to showcase UN development activities in Tanzania.
  • Document events and initiatives with high-quality photos, videos, and visual stories.
  • Collect, draft, and edit materials for newsletters, web stories, reports, and brochures.
  • Oversee content for the UN Tanzania website and social media channels.

Graphic Design and Layout

  • Design banners, posters, booklets, reports, and other materials following UN branding guidelines to boost content visibility and accessibility.
  • Create social media posts and presentations that adhere to UN standards.

Media Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track media coverage on UN activities in Tanzania, summarizing key points for the RCO Communications team.
  • Monitor national news on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and related topics.
  • Analyze public perception trends around UN initiatives, providing insights to improve communication strategies.
  • Assist in generating reports on communication reach and impact, using metrics from social media, news, and events.
  • Take on additional duties as needed.

Eligibility Criteria

Age: 18 – 80
Nationality: Must be a national or legal resident of Tanzania

Requirements

Experience:

  • At least 3 years in communications, media, graphic design, or social media management. Experience in photojournalism is a plus.
  • Skills: Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), social media analytics tools, and content management systems. Photo editing skills are also desirable.
  • Other Skills: Creativity, strong communication, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Language:

  • Fluent in English (required)
  • Fluent in Swahili (preferred)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Graphic Design, Media Studies, or a related field.

Tanzania is a peaceful, stable, lower-middle-income country. Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital, is a hub for trade, services, and manufacturing. About 80% of the population resides in rural areas.
