Job Summary
Are you great with numbers and love making sense of financial data? As an Accountant at African Relief and Community Development (ARCD) Tanzania, you’ll handle everything from preparing financial statements to analyzing accounts. You'll also ensure all financial practices comply with standard accounting procedures and contribute to ARCD's mission by monitoring the financial impact of its interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction Reviews: Check all financial transactions for accuracy, including proper documentation, account details, approvals, and signatures. Record transactions in sequence either manually or digitally.
- Bank Reconciliation: Match monthly bank account balances with bank statements, handle adjustments, and issue checks as needed.
- Salary Preparation: Process monthly salaries by reviewing attachments, verifying calculations, and ensuring compliance with policies. Submit salaries for review and approval.
- Account Reconciliations: Balance office accounts with external partners, verify correct balances, and manage timely supplier payments.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly reports, audit summaries, and financial statements, and submit these to relevant departments.
- Budget Monitoring: Compare actual results with estimated budgets, identify any discrepancies, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Fixed Assets Management: Maintain a fixed asset register, update it regularly, and ensure timely reporting.
- Audit Support: Work closely with internal and external auditors, providing all necessary information about accounts and systems.
- Tax Compliance: Stay updated on tax laws related to charitable organizations and ensure proper procedures are followed.
- General Support: Assist with tasks assigned by the office director or relevant departments.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields (Master’s degree is a plus).
Experience:
- 5–7 years of financial management experience, including at least 3 years in leadership roles in international development.
Skills:
- Strong leadership skills, with experience mentoring and guiding teams.
- Expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and donor compliance.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with donors, government officials, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in English (local languages or Arabic are a bonus).
