Purpose of the Role

As a Service Crew member, you’ll install underground services, including air lines, water lines, dewatering lines, secondary ventilation fans, and vent ducting. You’ll also extend Jumbo and pump cables, firing lines, and electrical cables, while working with electrical submersible and mono pumps underground.

Qualifications

Certificate of Secondary School Education Examination (CSEE).
Valid Tanzanian Driving License.

Experience

1-2 years of operational experience in an underground mining environment.
Knowledge of underground mining practices and processes.
Experience in open-pit operations is a plus.

Main Responsibilities

Safety

Learn and follow all safety requirements for your work.
Anticipate potential hazards and take necessary precautions before starting tasks.
Report any safety concerns to your supervisor.
Use the Take 5 tool to identify workplace hazards.
Suggest improvements for safety performance.
Report all injuries, damages, or incidents immediately.
Help others work safely.

Installation of Underground Services – Air, Water, and Dewatering Lines

Stretch poly pipes to make them straight and tow them to the required location.
Install, connect, and hang poly pipes on J-triple hook hangers secured with chains and shackles.
Install air droppers at least 1.5m above ground level.
Blow out dirty pipes before connecting headers.
Secure headers to the wall using eye bolts or split set plates with shackles.
Install secondary ventilation by placing fans as per the approved plan and extend ventilation bags at least 20m from the face.

Working with Underground Electrical Submersible Pumps

Position the pump in the sump or decline to remove water.
Hang and support the pump cable clear of the floor.
Check the pump regularly and report any defects.

Cleaning Mono Pumps

Open the drain valve to release mud and dirty water.
Use pressurized water to clean the mono tank.
Clean steel step ladders and landing platforms.
Inspect all pipe connections and the mono tank.

Installing, Grouting, and Tensioning of Cable Bolts

Prepare and inspect the tools and materials needed for the job.
Uncoil cable bolts, attach breather tubes, and transport them to the work area.
Insert cables safely into the holes and seal the hole collar.
Mix cement grout and fill the cables/holes to standard.
Perform housekeeping after completing the work.
Once the grout sets, apply tension on the cable bolts according to geotechnical standards.

Hanging and Retrieving Electrical Cables

Hang cables securely, keeping them separate from other services.
Position cables to prevent damage.
Hang Jumbo trail cables on L-pins and mark the area with trail cable signs.
Roll cables into an IT basket when retrieving.

Technical Competencies Required

Ability to drive in a mining environment.
Strong understanding and application of Job Safety Analysis.
Training and competence in operating an Integrated Tool Carrier (IT machine).
