Current Project: IKI Katuma Project

SNV recently launched a two-and-a-half-year IKI Katuma Project, partnering with GIZ, IUCN, and Rikolto. This project focuses on enhancing water resource management and community resilience in Katuma, Tanganyika District, Katavi Region. As part of this initiative, SNV is hiring a Senior Field Intern to support the project, working under the guidance of the Senior WRM Advisor to coordinate field activities, focusing on both logistical and technical support for WRM initiatives.

Job Role: Senior Field Intern

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative and Logistical Support

  • Organize travel, meeting logistics, and Mpesa registrations for IKI Katuma team members.
  • Coordinate workshop logistics: prepare letters, book venues, manage travel arrangements, and ensure administrative and financial processes run smoothly during meetings.
  • Assist the Senior Advisor in project activities across Katavi.

Technical Support, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Documentation

  • Collaborate with the Senior Advisor to create outreach programs for local communities, focusing on water resource management (WRM).
  • Develop engaging outreach materials like brochures, posters, and social media content.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing by creating case studies and success stories on WRM efforts in Katuma.
  • Document field activities through photos, minutes, and logs, tracking environmental conditions.
  • Support environmental restoration efforts, including river channel adjustments and riparian zone vegetation.
  • Assist in evaluating community engagement efforts and plan environmental initiatives.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting on WRM activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, water engineering, water resources management, irrigation engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years in WRM projects.
  • Experience with hydrology tools and approaches is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is essential.
  • Familiarity with hydrology software and GIS tools is an advantage.
  • Skilled in report writing, meeting coordination, and logistics.
  • NGO experience is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-management.

Additional Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of environmental flows, ecosystem services, and sustainable land use.
  • Ability to collect field data on water quality, sedimentation, and biodiversity.
  • Strong communication skills for community outreach and technical report writing.
  • Content creation for project outreach on social media is a plus.
