Position Overview:

If you’re looking to take on a leadership role that drives impactful projects, the Program Director at Habitat for Humanity Tanzania (HFHT) might be the right fit for you. Reporting to the National Director, you’ll lead HFHT’s projects and be a key part of its mission to provide affordable housing solutions to low-income families.

In this role, you’ll focus on growing current programs and aligning them with the organization’s strategic goals. You’ll also work with HFHT’s Senior Management Team, board members, and Habitat for Humanity International’s (HFHI) Area Office to prioritize projects, set goals, and implement strategies, all while staying true to Habitat’s mission and standards of excellence.

A big part of the job will involve working with donors, securing resources, and building partnerships to support HFHT’s 2024-2029 Strategy and Business Plan. You’ll also nurture relationships with partners and stakeholders, whether you’re attending meetings alone or with the National Director.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership and Representation:

  • Lead the design, development, and budgeting of program strategies.
  • Coordinate HFHT programs to meet Habitat’s vision and goals.
  • Make sure grant-funded projects follow compliance and reporting guidelines.
  • Manage program budgets and the overall budget process.
  • Stay up to date on global initiatives and trends, contributing to HFH’s overall goals.
  • Represent HFHT on external platforms and in strategic conversations.

2. Program Development and Delivery:

  • Ensure the successful delivery of programs and focus on quality and learning.
  • Develop tools to monitor project progress and hold regular grant reviews.
  • Oversee the creation of project improvement plans for better efficiency.
  • Build a system to enhance program quality and share knowledge.
  • Engage partners in programming by meeting their needs and utilizing their expertise.

3. Resource Mobilization and Partnership Development:

  • Develop strategies to secure resources for HFHT’s 2024-2029 goals.
  • Identify funding opportunities and lead grant acquisition efforts.
  • Develop creative concept notes and proposals for future projects.
  • Build relationships with donors and partners to ensure ongoing financial sustainability.
  • Track fundraising progress and report to the Board of Directors.

4. People Management and Safeguarding:

  • Lead and manage the program team, ensuring they meet organizational objectives.
  • Manage all HR aspects of the team, from recruitment to performance reviews.
  • Promote staff development and succession planning.
  • Create a learning environment for the team and promote collaboration.
  • Ensure all partners are trained in safeguarding and feedback mechanisms.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., development, project management, urban planning).
  • Experience: 10+ years in a similar leadership role, preferably with an international NGO.
  • Proven success in building partnerships and securing major grants.
  • Familiarity with housing issues in Tanzania is an advantage.
  • Strong financial and risk management skills.
  • Ability to design and implement strategic plans for multi-year projects.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken).
