WHO WE ARE

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is a major Midstream development spanning Uganda and Tanzania. It includes a nearshore Marine Storage and Export Terminal (MST). When completed, the EACOP Company will manage the 1,443 km long, electrically heated crude oil pipeline. This pipeline will transport oil from Kabaale – Hoima in Uganda to the Chongoleani Peninsula, near Tanga Port in Tanzania, for export to global markets.

JOB DIMENSIONS / GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Pipeline Engineer will be part of the EACOP inspection team. You’ll manage pipeline inspections for PS4/PS5 and MST areas. For PS1, you’ll follow the guidance of the Inspection Leader. Your role will involve creating corrosion guidance documents for the pipeline and being the main contact for integrity management, corrosion, and chemical treatments in Tanzania. You’ll oversee corrosion coupon assessments and intelligent pigging operations. You’ll make sure inspection tasks are completed as planned.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute Inspection Plans for pipelines and related structures.
  • Prepare and review intelligent pigging and corrosion coupon analyses.
  • Maintain equipment registers, schedule inspections, and manage reports using CMIMS (Computerized Maintenance & Inspection Management System) and RBI-P.
  • Ensure inspections and Non-Destructive Testing follow safety rules, inspection plans, and technical standards.
  • Coordinate inspection activities on-site and supervise contractors.
  • Review and manage change requests as needed.
  • Assist third-party reps with statutory inspections (certifications, authorities).
  • Participate in audits of contracted companies for testing, welding, and coating work.
  • Prepare and review inspection reports, assess findings, and recommend actions.
  • Act as the key contact for pipeline inspection and corrosion matters in Tanzania.
  • Draft and review pipeline inspection and corrosion procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanics, Materials Engineering, or a related field with expertise in mechanics, materials, metallurgy, and corrosion.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with ERB.
  • Strong command of English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of Fitness for Service (API RP 579, ASME, DNV).

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection.
  • Knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology.
  • Experience with corrosion analysis.
  • Familiarity with CMIMS.
  • Pipeline inspection experience.
