The Role: Packaging Artisan
As a Packaging Artisan, you’ll bring your specialist skills and knowledge to support operations, maintenance, and problem-solving activities within the team. You’ll be a key player in making sure everything runs smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- You’ll provide expert support to the shift teams during operations, whether you’re on standby or working during the day.
- You might be asked to help solve problems as a functional expert.
- You’ll guide the team on how to operate machines, identify machine issues, and respond to failures.
- Expect to coach and mentor shift-based teams on machine operation.
- Assess team members’ ability to handle machine-related tasks.
- Participate in regional and central office plant optimization trials.
- Follow work practices that support the team’s daily operations.
Maintenance
- Take part in maintenance planning meetings. You’ll share your suggestions and clarify any work that needs to be done.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance based on the planner’s guidelines.
- If you can’t finish the scheduled tasks, you’ll communicate with the Maintenance Planner for further direction. This could mean rescheduling or reprioritizing tasks.
- Help your fellow team members during maintenance windows.
- Complete any necessary admin tasks using SAP, SIGGA, or Problem Terminator systems to support planned maintenance.
- After maintenance, take part in postmortem reviews to share what went well and what could be improved for future tasks.
Problem Solving
- You’ll assist team members with resolving problems whenever needed.
- You may be asked to join AB reports as a functional expert.
- If necessary, call in additional help for more complex issues or escalate the problem to the Packaging Engineer or the Performance and Continuous Improvement Manager.
- Analyze machine performance, identify loss and waste areas, and create action plans to boost efficiency.
Housekeeping and Safety
- Your top priority is always safety. Make sure to follow safety protocols and highlight any unsafe practices so they can be fixed.
- Stick to work instructions, company policies, and VPO standards.
- Keep things tidy by doing housekeeping tasks and applying 5S principles while working.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Electrical Trade Test
- Minimum N3 Electrical Engineering qualification
- 2 years of experience (highly preferred)
