TAHA, or the Tanzania Horticultural Association, is on the lookout for a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager to help with their exciting projects. What’s TAHA All About?
TAHA is a member-based organization focused on developing and promoting horticulture in Tanzania. Think flowers, fruits, veggies, spices, and herbs! The main goal is to boost the growth and competitiveness of the horticultural industry for the betterment of the community. Essentially, TAHA acts as a unified voice for everyone in the horticulture scene—farmers, processors, exporters, and service providers.
A Little About the Project
Currently, TAHA is rolling out a five-year project funded by USAID called “Tuhifadhi Chakula.” This project aims to tackle food loss and waste, which is a big deal for improving food security and livelihoods in Tanzania. Here’s what the project focuses on:
- Improving Food Handling: Helping farmers and businesses handle food better after it’s harvested.
- Storage Solutions: Finding ways to store food to keep it fresh for longer.
- Market Access: Making sure agricultural goods reach consumers efficiently.
- Policy Promotion: Advocating for policies that reduce food loss and waste.
- Strengthening Local Capacity: Building the skills of local organizations in post-harvest management.
What You’ll Be Doing as the MEL Manager
As the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager, you’ll play a key role in making sure this project meets its goals. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll be responsible for:
- Developing the MEL Plan: Work with project staff to create a solid plan for monitoring and evaluating the project’s progress.
- Managing Results Framework: Set up a framework that includes key indicators and targets, and figure out how to collect data effectively.
- Tracking Progress: Create a system to monitor how well the project is doing and report on its progress.
- Data Collection Tools: Lead the charge in developing tools to gather and analyze project data.
- Ensuring Data Quality: Make sure the data collected is accurate and reliable.
- Training Staff: Teach project staff and partners how to collect data effectively and on time.
- Stakeholder Feedback: Create a system for gathering and addressing feedback from project stakeholders.
- Building Relationships: Foster strong relationships with stakeholders to promote transparency and accountability.
- Reporting: Prepare regular reports on the project’s progress, including quarterly and annual reports.
What We’re Looking For
Here’s what you need to be successful in this role:
- Education: A Master’s degree in economics, agricultural economics, statistics, biostatistics, or a related field.
- Experience: At least seven years in monitoring and evaluation for international development projects.
- Knowledge: A solid understanding of theories of change, food security indicators, and data quality assurance.
- Technical Skills: Experience in developing monitoring plans and conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
- Key Skills: Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.
