Job Summary:
The MHPSS Officer will play a critical role in delivering mental health and psychosocial support to Burundian and Congolese refugees. This includes providing individual and group counselling sessions, supervising staff, and ensuring the effective implementation of MHPSS activities within the refugee camp. The position is based at Nyarugusu Camp, Kasulu.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement MHPSS activities within the wellness centre.
- Conduct individual and group therapeutic sessions with refugees.
- Perform intake and post-session assessments for MHPSS beneficiaries.
- Ensure timely case referrals and follow-up for individuals requiring further assistance.
- Provide training and guidance to volunteers and staff on MHPSS topics.
- Monitor and evaluate programme activities, ensuring quality service delivery.
- Contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure programme effectiveness.
- Organise activities to raise mental health awareness in the refugee community.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to address mental health needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in counselling psychology, clinical psychotherapy, or a related field.
- Minimum three years of experience in implementing mental health programmes.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing emotional distress or mental disorders.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both in English and Swahili.
