Who We Are
The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is a large-scale development in Uganda and Tanzania, including a Marine Storage and Export Terminal (MST) near the coast. Once the project wraps up, the EACOP Company will run a 1,443 km long pipeline, designed to transport crude oil from Kabaale-Hoima in Uganda to the Chongoleani Peninsula near Tanzania’s Tanga Port for export.

Job Overview: Mechanical Rotating Engineer
As a Mechanical Rotating Engineer for EACOP, your main task will be to oversee and report on mechanical operations in four key areas. Your goal? Keep things running smoothly, cut down costs, and improve efficiency. Here’s a quick breakdown of the equipment you’ll manage:

  • 18 export pumps (3500 KW each)
  • 3 export loading pumps
  • 19 Diesel/Crude Generator packages (Caterpillar 3616)
  • 12 firewater pumps

You’ll act as the go-to person for EACOP’s rotating equipment and coordinate activities with other teams. You’ll also be responsible for following Health, Safety, Social, Security & Environment (H3SE) rules and making sure others do too. You’ll report directly to the Maintenance Leader and provide support to 9 Site Mechanical Technicians.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Keep an eye on rotating equipment and manage the maintenance strategy.
  • Make sure condition monitoring tools work well and update them as needed.
  • Check the performance of mechanical equipment to meet set standards.
  • Provide mechanical support and help shape EACOP’s future developments.
  • Lead studies to hit availability targets.
  • Organize and manage major maintenance tasks for rotating equipment.
  • Monitor and report on equipment availability and performance, keeping the system aligned with the area’s goals.
  • Stay on top of long-lead items for timely project execution.
  • Audit workshop procedures for repairing materials and track progress.
  • Handle stock management in line with the criticality study.
  • Report on contractor performance and suggest ways to improve availability and feasibility.
  • Review and challenge maintenance plans to minimize downtime and reduce costs.
  • Ensure proper lifecycle management of equipment and oversee related studies and action plans.
  • Collaborate with the contractor’s maintenance team for supply and services.
  • Offer advice on major malfunctions and failures and assess contractor action plans to fix issues.
  • Participate in updates and make recommendations for future contracts.
  • Create performance indicators for maintenance contractors and assess their performance.
  • Plan and influence the 90-day and 5-week schedules.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Engineering degree (Bac +5) with a focus on Mechanical Rotating Machines or similar experience.
  • Language: Fluent English.
  • Experience: 8+ years in rotating machinery, plus 5+ years in industrial maintenance with hands-on experience in vibration analysis, oil production, and team management. Knowledge of maintenance methods like RCM monitoring and CMMS is a must.
  • Skills: Strong reliability, autonomy, leadership, and analytical skills. ERB Registration as a Professional Engineer is required.
