Company: Lake Cement Limited
Department: Mechanical
Location: Kimbiji-Kigamboni, Tanzania
Are you a mechanical engineer looking for a new opportunity? Lake Cement Limited is on the hunt for a skilled engineer to join their team at the Kimbiji-Kigamboni plant. If you’re looking to grow your career in the cement industry and gain hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, this might be the perfect role for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Mechanical Engineer at Lake Cement Limited, your main job will be making sure that everything in the mechanical department runs smoothly. You’ll be working on maintenance tasks, planning, and troubleshooting any issues that pop up. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll be responsible for:
1. Prioritize Safety First
In any industrial job, safety is key. One of your top priorities will be to ensure that all maintenance work is carried out safely. Before starting any task, you’ll perform a risk assessment to make sure everything is done properly without compromising safety.
2. Plan and Assign Daily Maintenance Tasks
A big part of your day-to-day role will involve planning and assigning maintenance tasks to the team. You’ll make sure that everyone has the right tools, resources, and instructions to complete their tasks efficiently.
3. Stick to Maintenance Schedules
Keeping machines running smoothly is all about sticking to the maintenance and lubrication schedules. You’ll monitor these schedules closely to ensure the machines get the care they need on time.
4. Manage the Workforce
You’ll oversee the workforce, ensuring that both planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance tasks are carried out. You’ll be the go-to person for managing the daily workload and providing direction.
5. Inspect Equipment Regularly
To avoid major breakdowns, you’ll perform regular inspections on the equipment, whether it’s operating or stopped. Spotting problems early can save time, money, and hassle down the line.
6. Handle Breakdowns
Breakdowns happen, but it’ll be your job to respond quickly and make sure that the equipment gets back up and running in the shortest time possible. You’ll have to make quick decisions and utilize the necessary resources to get everything sorted.
7. Plan for Spare Parts
You’ll also keep an eye on the spares and sub-assemblies. Running out of critical parts can cause major delays, so you’ll ensure stock levels are maintained. When needed, you’ll initiate procurement with your head of department (HOD) to make sure supplies are replenished on time.
8. Assist in Shutdown Activities
When major maintenance or repairs are needed, you’ll help out during shutdown activities. From the preparation stage to execution, you’ll be part of the team ensuring that everything goes according to plan.
9. Log Tasks in the ODOO ERP System
All your tasks will be tracked through the ODOO ERP system. You’ll log the details of every task you perform, making sure everything is documented and organized.
10. Participate in On-the-Job Training (OJT)
Lake Cement is big on developing its workforce. As part of the job, you’ll be actively involved in skill development activities, including On-the-Job Training. Whether it’s learning new techniques or passing on knowledge to other team members, you’ll be part of creating a more skilled and capable workforce.

If this sounds like the perfect job for you, here’s what you need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering: You’ll need a solid foundation in mechanical engineering, and a bachelor’s degree is a must.
