Who We Are

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is a major development running through Uganda and Tanzania, with a nearshore Marine Storage and Export Terminal (MST). Once completed, EACOP will manage a 1,443 km long, electrically heated crude oil pipeline. This pipeline will carry oil from Kabaale – Hoima in Uganda to the Chongoleani Peninsula near Tanga Port in Tanzania for export to international markets.

Job Overview

The Inspection Lead will head the EACOP inspection team, managing five specialists focused on pipeline, corrosion, site methods, and contracts. You’ll set the inspection plan’s strategy and ensure asset integrity. Your role involves coordinating, organizing, and overseeing team performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs) like progress and budget. If you’re experienced in coaching new engineers on damage mechanisms and inspection techniques, you’ll help build the EACOP inspection system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and review maintenance inspection strategies.
  • Set up contact processes and audit plans based on local standards.
  • Assist in recruiting the inspection team.
  • Manage contracts for inspection services.
  • Coordinate the inspection teams in both Tanzania and Uganda.
  • Optimize inspection activities for better efficiency.
  • Handle change management requests.
  • Select and review risk-based inspection tools.
  • Ensure the lifting register, flexible register, and temporary repair database are current.
  • Oversee welding qualifications and emergency repair procedures.
  • Act as the main point of contact for inspection and corrosion issues.
  • Review inspection programs, pigging operations, and partial shutdowns.
  • Help prepare the inspection budget.
  • Analyze inspection findings and suggest corrective actions.
  • Take part in technical audits on contracted companies (NDT, Welding, Fabrication, Coating).
  • Review recommendations for materials, designs, and protection measures (coating, cathodic, corrosion inhibition).
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and standards for repairs and equipment modifications.
  • Manage the inspection team and resources.

Qualifications & Experience

Academic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Mechanical or Materials Engineer with a focus on mechanics, materials, metallurgy, and corrosion.
  • Knowledge of Oil & Gas equipment and pipelines.
  • Familiarity with international standards (ASME, API, NACE).
  • Skilled in Non-Destructive Testing, RBI, and Fitness for Service assessment.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Registered Professional Engineer with ERB.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in inspection supervision, especially in Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Petrochemical sectors.
  • Experienced in planning and overseeing full field shutdowns.
  • ERB Registration is required.
