What AGRA Does

AGRA is all about transforming agriculture across Africa. We’re an African-led institution dedicated to creating sustainable food systems. Our mission is to empower 33 million smallholder farmers, helping them turn their agricultural struggles into profitable ventures. We know farmers face a lot of challenges, and we’re here to provide African solutions that tackle these issues head-on. Our goal? More harvests, less hunger, and increased income for farmers.

We align our efforts with the development priorities of the countries we focus on. We help farmers access better seeds, learn sustainable farming techniques, and connect with markets that pay fair prices.

We’re committed to building the partnerships and networks needed to make agricultural transformation inclusive. We work hard to create a youth-friendly environment, so young people—especially women—can thrive and find job opportunities. Here are the four key areas we focus on:

  • Policy and State Capability: We assist governments in making it easier for the private sector to get involved in agricultural change.
  • Seed Systems: We boost productivity by increasing the availability of improved seeds, allowing farmers to grow more food and earn better incomes.
  • Sustainable Farming: We help farmers develop resilient systems to achieve sustained high yields through mechanization and irrigation.
  • Inclusive Markets and Trade: We work to strengthen the connections between farmers and other market players, creating a cycle of commercialization and reinvestment.
