What You’ll Do

As a Chauffeur in the U.S. Embassy’s motor pool, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our passengers while on the road. You’ll also be responsible for loading and unloading vehicles and keeping cargo secure when driving a truck. Sometimes, you might even deliver invitations and documents as a messenger!

Your Main Duties Include:

  • Driving Duties (60%):
    You’ll operate a range of vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles, passenger cars, and flat-bed trucks. Expect to make some trips up-country and communicate in English on the radio while driving.
  • Safety & Maintenance (20%):
    You’ll make sure the Embassy vehicles are safe and well-maintained. This means scheduling tune-ups, loading and unloading cargo properly, and ensuring passenger safety. You may also assist visitors and staff at the airport when needed.
  • Record Keeping (20%):
    Keep daily trip records and report any accidents or vehicle issues to the Motor Pool supervisor.

Qualifications You Need

Experience:
You should have at least three years of driving experience, whether from a private company or a government agency.

Job Knowledge:
Familiarity with local traffic laws and knowledge of Dar es Salaam’s roads are essential. You should also know some basic auto mechanics.

Education:
A completion of Primary School is a must.

Language Skills:
You need to have Level III (Good Working Knowledge) in both English and Swahili. Don’t worry; there may be a test!


Skills and Abilities

  • Learn to operate vehicle radios.
  • Hold a Class C local driver’s license to drive all types of vehicles and motorcycles.
