Women Fund Tanzania Trust (WFT-T) is looking for an Assistant Gender Coordinator to join the Regenerative Seascapes for People, Climate, and Nature Program (ReSea), funded by Global Affairs Canada. This program helps coastal communities in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region, focusing on gender equality, conservation, and climate change adaptation.

What is ReSea All About?

ReSea works in Kenya, Tanzania, Comoros, and Madagascar to boost the resilience of coastal communities by promoting gender-responsive conservation and economic empowerment. In Tanzania, Women Fund Tanzania Trust (WFT-T) is a key technical partner, ensuring that women are front and center in environmental justice efforts.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Assistant Gender Coordinator, you’ll help the Gender Coordinator implement gender equality strategies in the project. Your role includes both operational and field-based tasks, making sure the project’s goals are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Gender Mainstreaming
    Help integrate gender equality into project plans and reports. Collaborate with the team to develop gender-sensitive materials and training.
  • Coordinate Field Activities
    Work with local communities to gather feedback and ensure their voices are included in the project. Oversee logistics for gender-related activities.
  • Data Collection and Gender Analysis
    Collect gender-disaggregated data, help with gender analysis, and support reporting on project outcomes.
  • Support Capacity Building
    Assist in organizing training on gender equality, climate justice, and women’s leadership for communities and staff.
  • Advocacy and Policy Efforts
    Help prepare reports, policy briefs, and presentations advocating for gender-responsive environmental policies.
  • Provide Administrative Support
    Handle logistics for workshops and meetings. Keep files organized and help with meeting scheduling.
  • Support Communications
    Contribute to reports, newsletters, and social media content that highlight the project’s gender equality achievements.
  • Monitor Gender Integration
    Track women’s participation in nature-based solutions (NbS) and suggest improvements to enhance their involvement.
  • Build Relationships
    Act as a liaison between women’s organizations and the project team, helping to build partnerships that support gender equality goals.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, or similar. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in gender mainstreaming, women’s empowerment, or feminist advocacy, preferably with climate-related projects.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and facilitation skills, especially at the grassroots level.
  • Passion: Strong commitment to feminist principles, social justice, and environmental sustainability.
