JOB ADVERT: FIELD COMPRESSOR TECHNICIAN (02 VACANCIES)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a field compressor technician to join our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align with the Barrick DNA, drive change within his or her team and the business, and, on a practical note, ensure activities in the engineering department are effectively planned and undertaken in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure safe work practices, i.e., attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting, and total adherence to all safety, occupational health, and environmental policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • A team-based job safety analysis was completed accurately for every task with a standard operating procedure.
  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and that deviations are reported.
  • Adhere to the isolation and lockout permits’ procedures.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and repair on all brands of air compressors, both oil-flooded and oil-free, refrigerated, or desiccant air dryers, and related equipment. Preventive maintenance should be conducted in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and perform diagnosis on malfunctioning equipment, determine possible causes for malfunctions, and perform repairs as suggested by diagnosis and assessment. Prior to and following preventive maintenance and repair, test and document the proper operating parameters of the equipment.
  • Rebuild and repair compressors and related equipment, checking tolerances and wear specifications.
  • Look up parts, determine materials or procedures needed to rebuild or repair units, and notify management. Clean and recondition parts as needed, utilizing established methods and procedures.
  • Display the ability to absorb a higher level of learning, including VCD’s refrigeration, industrial networks, remote monitoring, and air audits.
  • be able to demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude, read wiring diagrams, and be familiar with low-voltage electricity and electronics.
  • Establish demand planning on the service kit for each compressor and make sure parts are available before equipment is due for service. Liaise with maintenance planners and store officers to ensure reasonable stock is available all the time.
  • Monitor and record daily running parameters and analyze the data for performance monitoring and adjustment based on operation demands.
  • 100% compliance with standard operating procedures for safe work daily: isolation, lockout, confined space, working at height, lifting and rigging, etc.
  • 100% compliance with scheduled equipment inspections daily, weekly, monthly, and identified defects reported within the shift.
  • 100% Compliance with Equipment Preventive Maintenance Schedule and work are carried out accordingly daily.
  • Knowing and understanding the type of sling and hitch used
  • Know and understand load weight estimation, the center of gravity, and the effect of angles on equipment. Load turning, knots/tag lines, chain hoist/come along usage, winch block usage, and basic hand signals, as applicable.
  • Know how lifting equipment is inspected.
  • 100% compliance with completing the required logbooks for inspection daily, weekly, and monthly.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Full technician certificates or diplomas in mechanical and electrical engineering from recognized institutions
  • Valid driving license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5 years of experience as a mechanical/electric technician at a large, deep-level mine

Skills and knowledge requirements:
  • Excellent communication in English, both written and verbal
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Mine Health and Safety Act awareness
  • Knowledge of cranes and rigging

About the team
Bulyanhulu is situated in north-west Tanzania, in the Kahama district of the Shinyanga region, approximately 55 kilometers south of Lake Victoria and 150 kilometers southwest of the city of Mwanza.

Bulyanhulu is a narrow-vein gold mine containing gold, silver, and copper mineralization in sulfides. The mineralization of Bulyanhulu is associated with a number of steeply dipping veins. Bulyanhulu commenced commercial production in 2001.
